SUP Star of the Month – November 2024
Meet Bronwyn Mee
Full of courage, empathy, and cheekiness. Bronnie gives the best hugs and I am grateful she paddled into my life. The Perth SUP Community is fuller for having Bronnie in it.
If you haven’t met Bronnie yet – it’s probably as she’s out galavanting around the world. But I’m sure you’ll get a chance over the coming Summer.
Bronnie sets goals and achieves them. I LOVE her passion for everything she does. She’s a glass half full kinda gal
Originally from Victoria having made the move West almost 30 years ago; Bronnie came on a 6 month camping holiday with 2 young kids and never went back!
“I love the climate and lifestyle here, it feels like being on a permanent holiday”
- How did you get bitten by the SUP bug?
After attending my first retreat, the urban adventure in Freo, I realised there was a lot more to SUP paddling than I first thought; the technical and fitness elements really appealed to me.
- Tell me why you enjoy paddling?
i just love being on the water; after trying most water sports, I’ve stuck with SUP paddling – I particularly like the simplicity of it. All you need is a board and a paddle and off you go. The social aspect of it is also appealing; being able to have a chat while you paddle is a real plus! I’ve met many new people through being a part of this community, and developed some new friendships. Having said that, I should add that from time to time I like to get out on my own and enjoy being out in nature!
- Where’s the best place you have paddled?
It’s hard to beat Wanaka in New Zealand. spending 3 days paddling and camping out on Lake Wanaka with a bunch of like-minded ladies was something pretty special.
- What board do you ride?
A 9’6” Starboard – “Go Surf’ limited edition
- What do you enjoy about Nicki’s SUP sessions?
I usually attend the SUP fit sessions as there’s an element of risk to challenge me, but with a focus on fun and fitness.I always feel as though I’ve had a good workout after it!
- Do you have any tips for people starting out?
Purchase a good quality board – it’s worth the investment- oh and get some lessons with Nicki of course!
- Where is your dream SUP destination or do you have any paddling goals?
I’m planning to paddle more overseas destinations – Philippines in 2025 is booked! I’d love to go back to NZ, or Hawaii. Paddling goals – I’d love to attempt more surfing, but it’s much harder than it looks!!
Righto Bronnie – I think a SUP surfing retreat is on the cards. Portugal or Sri Lanka? You choose!!!!
