September 2022 – SUP Star of the month
Meet Missy
The smiliest, most chilled paddler around. She’s kind and funny and makes the yummiest slow cooked lamb EVER!
Tell us a bit about yourself. Random fact about YOU!
I am a teacher of students with special educational needs.
How did you get bitten by the SUP bug?
I would walk my dog along the river in Mosman Park and often see paddlers, probably Nicki, training. On one of the walks I said to my dog, I want to do that it. looks like my kind of activity.
Tell me why you enjoy paddling?
Being in nature on the water, everyday is different. It has a been an absolute blessing meeting so many people and I have made some great friends because of paddling. I never would have thought I would compete in a race, learn to surf and practice technical turns on the ocean in the middle of winter.
Where’s the best place you have paddled?
We are so lucky in Perth/WA, I think it’s all the best!
What kind of board do you ride?
YOB 9’2, Starboard 14ft sprint and a JP 12’6!
What do you enjoy most about Nicki’s SUP sessions?
I enjoy learning from someone so enthusiastic and fun.
Where is your dream SUP destination or do you have any paddling goals?
SUP goal: to incorporate SUP and travel. Destination unknown!
Do you have any tips for people starting out?
Have a lesson to learn the basics, I did and it has helped me immensely. Jump in the water and get wet before you start paddling, that way the fear of falling in is eliminated!
